Rough-legged Hawks in the North Bay 2012
Rough-legged Hawks invade North Bay 2012 and it's about time! One of our favorites that could be seen every winter in Sonoma County in the 1990s and into 2004, but the last few years they have been few and far between.....
Josh Asel photos, Josh is a West County Hawk Watch member. Photo's chiefly for documentation and reference. This hawk was along Middle Road in Marin. Seen 12/19/12 and again on 12/20/12
On Wednesday 12/19/12 Josh Asel and Larry Broderick did the
West County Grid. We had a good day and the high-light was a Rough-legged Hawk on
Middle Road near the crest of ridge. This is yet another good spotting and
documentation of the RLHA in Sonoma/Marin for the 2012/2013 season.
Will post photo in photo section under 12/19/2012 RLHA on
the North Bay Hawks message board.
On 12/20/12 I revisited the area with my boys specifically
for the RLHA but failed to find the RLHA again along Middle Road. We did however work the area in search of RLHA's and found
two more along Valley Ford Franklin School Road near Estero Road. Here We had a
juvenile and an adult female. Please be courteous out here as
Ranchers are always interested in who's watching who. I always wave and I am
more then happy to explain why we are watching and documenting the birds.
