I personally had thought it was a 5th year bird from this video, but further evidence from photos we (Joan and I) decided to go 4th year Bird... Joan has some photos showing the underwing linings which show evidence of the bird in its 4th year. To confirm our thoughts we contacted one of the nations leading experts.... below is Jerry's take on it.

"It appears the bird has molted 3 times which would make it a 4th year bird, but depending on energy, location, health, and a few other factors some birds molt slower than others. Hope this helps

International Migratory Bird Day won’t be celebrated until Saturday, May 9, but a special tour to the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge will be offered a week earlier. “Don’t miss out on an opportunity to see bald eagles in their nest,” said Hallie Rasmussen, one of Bird Day organizers. “This free guided bus tour to the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge will take you through an area that is otherwise closed to the public to view the nesting bald eagles, among many other birds.”

The bus tour is scheduled Saturday, May 2, leaving from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Office, 1936 California Ave., at 9 a.m. and returning about noon. Preregistration is recommended but not required and can be done by calling the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuges office at 530-667-2231.

Rasmussen said the bus tour, a pre-event for the 16th Annual International Migratory Bird Day, will be guided by experts who will discuss bird life, habitat and how agriculture is supporting bird habitat and efforts aimed at benefiting the Klamath Basin, including birds.

“If you have never birded before, or want to learn more about birds, this will be a great tour to take,” she said. “The Klamath Basin is so fortunate to have an abundance of migrating and nesting birds, playing host to more than 350 bird species.”

 B.J. Matzen, one of the founders of the Klamath Wingwatchers and a board member of the Klamath Bird Observatory, will provide insight about birds during the bus tour.

The International Migratory Bird Day event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 9, at Veterans Memorial Park. The bus tour used to be on the same day as the event, “but we are trying something new that, hopefully, will allow more people to advantage of incredible free tour,” Rasmussen said.

This video was recorded in Unalaska, Alaska. Google it. A bunch of bald eagles show up in our back yard. You get to hear a lot of the bald eagles talking. My kids get really close to them, they must really want more red salmon. Right now the salmon are running upstream to spawn so most of the locals are set-netting on the beach and smoking/canning/grilling some sockeye. In this video the native Aleuts were subsistence fishing and drying out the fillets. The Aleuts were not using the heads and guts and that is what the eagles were eating.
