Incredible day of Raptor Migration in the Jenner Headlands Preserve, lots of great looks and close flybys,  thank you Shabda for the photos! amazing work!  

22 ~ Cooper's Hawks, Individual Birds, almost all heading south
14 ~ Sharp-shinned Hawks, Individual Birds all most all heading south
2 ~ Merlin
17 ~ American Kestrel (17 sightings), 12 birds, some seen twice or three times
1 ~ Red-shouldered Hawk
14 ~ Northern Harrier (14 sightings), 8 individual birds
28 ~ Red-tailed Hawks (28 sightings), 18 individual birds
23 ~ Turkey Vultures.

Hawk Watch Jenner 9-20-20 ~ 9:15am ! Jenner visitor center (meet, count runs 10am to 2pm, come join us)

Team 3 Sunday 9-20-2020 Greetings Fellow Raptor Enthusiasts, Tomorrow! We will be hosting Team #3 on the weekends with Larry Broderick (some dates). Volunteer spaces are limited due to COVID and parking protocols, so it is imperative we know how many people intend to join the count.

We will carpool [or drive alone in individual cars] up the hill (with masks ) for a 10:00am count start. If the weather cooperates, we will stay up on the hill until 2:00pm.  COVID-19 Protocols: 

 * We will practice social distancing on the hill! 

 * Maintain a minimum 6-feet distance from anyone who is not a household member. 

 * Do not attend the count if you're feeling sick, or have a cough or fever. 

 * Sneeze and cough into a cloth or tissue, or, if not available, into one's elbow. 

 * Do not shake hands or engage in any unnecessary physical contact. 

 * Volunteers must bring their own mask/face-cove and are required to wear them at all times. 

 * We suggest not sharing optics - field guides. 

 * Use alcohol sanitizer when signing waivers (using pens or pencil) 

 * If carpooling, wear masks and leave windows down for the short drive

Redundant [sorry for duplicated information] but here is Basic protocols: 

Meet at the Jenner Visitor Center (JVC) at 9:15 AM. Promptly at 9:30 AM, we will drive up to the Jenner Headlands. 

The count up on the hill runs from 10 AM - 2 PM, weather permitting. We'll drive back down to JVC by 2:30 PM. 

All attending MUST sign a liability waiver each time you go (per The Wildlands Conservancy). COVID-19 Protocols: 

* We will practice social distancing on the hill!

Please note: Some will not be bringing anyone else in our car. Some will car pool, windows down would be best, if car pooling wear mask. There is limited space for parking on the hill. If you choose not to carpool with anyone else, please be aware that the road up to the hill is unpaved and bumpy, please drive slowly... if you're kicking up dust you're going too fast. 

Please mind the gates, if the cows get out we may lose our privileges. What to bring: Face-mask, hand sanitizer, water, lunch, layered clothing, sunscreen, shade hat, camping chair or blanket to sit on, raptor ID books, binoculars, spotting scope.

August 25th, Saturday Orientation. Meet at 9:15, head up at 9:30, we'll be done by noon, we are going to check to gate, stock the forms bin, time the walk up from the barn, explore a shuttle to and from the barn, and look for some hawks, if its good we may stay past noon.

Hello Team,

We will be starting our Fall Migration Project on Wednesday Aug 29TH 2018. There is a slight difference to our protocol this year.

We will still meet at the Jenner Visitor Center (JVC) and carpool to the Jenner Hawk Overlook (JHO). We will leave the JVC at 0930 SHARP! So that we can start our Hawkwatch at 1000 hours.

Here is the IMPORTANT new Protocol: We will park our vehicles at the barn and walk to our Hawkwatch site about 200 yards! We are still working on the details with The Wildlands Conservancy (TWC).
We will stay until 1400 hours (2:00) than depart the hill.

If joining please let us know. You should bring layered clothing! It can be hot or it can be down right cold & windy!!

Lunch food snacks
Hydration fluids
Binoculars
Spotting scope
Folding chair
Camera
A Great Attitude
A desire to learn
Wind gauge
Compass
Pencil or pen & paper

I will be at every Wednesday except Sept 5TH, unless something unforeseen come up?

Jenner Hawkwatch tomorrow 1pm to 4pm, be there

(9-23-17) heading out to Jenner tomorrow Saturday, rare afternoon watch 1pm to 4pm... meet up at 12:30 at the Jenner Visitors Center (JVC) in the town of Jenner, if the JVC Parking Lot is full which it may be, we'll meet across the street at the Jenner Inn, use my cell # below to call me if needed, We head up to the hawk watch by 12:45, count 1pm to 4pm.... we'll leave early if activity is not there, but from what I am seeing at GGRO (Golden Gate Raptor Observatory) it's on and Sharp-shinned and Cooper's Hawks are on the move.

We had a Northern Goshawk at Jenner Headlands Hawkwatch yesterday, the flight pattern was from north to south it was high in the sky but not too high to get the call wrong. It was very unlike any buteo, harrier, falcon or for that matter Sharp-shinned or Coopers Hawk .....super large accipiter, long tail, big head projection, bird formed a larger accipiter shaped "cross" silhouette and flew unlike any thing else I've seen (except the NOGO I saw last year at Jenner, the 2 I've seen at GGRO and the one I've seen in South Lake Tahoe) The bird had wing beats like the bird(s) in this video .... only the bird we saw yesterday was on a straight line north to south and not circling....
