Important details

• WHAT TO BE PREPARED FOR: (1) All ages are welcome but they must be prepared for a slow-to-moderate pace covering about 4 miles. The route includes rugged, steep, and slippery hills that are full of sticky seeds and thorny plants. Expect rough, rocky, uneven ground. Expect to hike off-trail for extended periods of time. (2) This is a working ranch where free-range cattle roam as they please. (3) There is no drinking water. (4) There is one outhouse, located in the parking lot. (5) In order to protect wildlife, cattle, and rare plants—and for your pet's safety—dogs are not allowed. (6) Take only pictures, leave only footprints. (7) Maintain a safe distance from cattle and wildlife, and be aware that this is tick, mountain lion, poison oak, and potentially rattlesnake country.
• WHAT TO BRING: (1) $6 cash or check for parking. (2) A backpack with plenty of water and snacks. (3) Boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes that grip well. (4) Long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. (5) Protection from the elements (sun, wind, fog, rain). (6) Also recommended: Binoculars, camera, hiking sticks, bug repellent.
• MEETING PLACE: Directions to Lynch Canyon: http://www.solanolandtrust.org/Directions.aspx. Meet your guide in the parking lot.

while driving home from a big day of seeing 6 FEHAs and 5 RLHAs we stumbled across this Merlin, before we got up close bird looked "Coop-ish" but as we got closer the tail wasn't long enough and the eye stripe was evident.

the Pronghorn sometimes show up in Butte Valley while you'll be checking out Eagles and Hawks, suddenly these guys appear and it adds to the show. We have also seen them up along highway 161 and even down along the frontage roads of the SacWR system.

2013 up coming events and new west county hawk watchers!

Welcome everyone, here is a few dates and items for the next couple weeks...

 

Thanks for coming out to the events, whether it was Lynch Canyon, Sears Point
Baylands, Rush Ranch or Tolay creek! We just did those 4 properties over the last few weeks and boy did we see some good stuff.

Regarding upcoming items, We have a Lynch Canyon Raptor overload coming up 3/3/2013 and the season close at Rush Ranch 3/17/2013 powerpoint workshop and  short hike.

We have a few things lined up for the end of the raptor season. For us theseason runs mid-august to early-march, this being the annual migration times and the population influx of over-wintering raptors.

March 3rd Sunday, 10am – 2pm: Lynch Canyon Raptor Hike, Last Lynch raptor hike until August. Public is invited. R.S.V.P at www.solanolandtrust.org under the events calendar.

March 17th Sunday,  11am – 2pm: Rush Ranch Raptor "Season-End" Workshop & Hike Public is invited R.S.V.P at www.solanolandtrust.org

March 18th Monday 7:30pm Sonoma County & North Bay Raptor 2013 updates & Identification workshop.  Public is invited. First United Methodist Church. 1551 Montgomery Drive, Santa Rosa.

April 6th 10pm to 3pm Birding workshop with LandPaths and Bohemian Preserve,with David Barry and Larry Broderick _ Details forth coming
