We are happy to announce an end of season event which will be held on April 6, 2019 at Rush Ranch.  Larry Broderick will lead a Bird of Prey Hike, followed by a presentation on the Northern Harrier, by Dr. Shanon Skalos from U.C. Davis. A chili and cornbread lunch will be provided.

Registration Recommended.

In lieu of the $10 fee, donations will be accepted for The Suisun Wildlife Center.

December 3rd, (Saturday) 9 am to 1 pm at the King-Swett Ranches
Where the Wild Things Are Hike with Jim Walsh:  Wander the hills between Fairfield, Benicia and Vallejo.  Get a great workout and learn about the birds and other wildlife that call this area home.  Take advantage of this special opportunity if you can because the King-Swett Ranches are otherwise closed.  Up to six miles.  Free!  Space is limited.  Pre-registration recommended.

December 3rd, (Saturday) 9:30 to 11am, Sonoma Land Trust, Baylands / Dickson units bird hike, (Reclamation Road off of highway 37) Park at Reclamation road parking lot, no registration necessary.

Details on how to identify what you see when you are looking at hawks. Some history on the past, present and future of our Birds of Prey. Opportunities to go out and see these birds on upcoming scheduled hikes, walks and counts. Plus some handouts of Hawk Identification process paperwork.

Suisun Hill Trail West County HawkWatch 2015-2016

Suisun Hill Trail: Suisun Hill Trail is a 1.3 mile loop trail located near Suisun City, CA that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and horses and is accessible year-round. Dogs and horses are also able to use this trail.

We just had our 3-19-2016 (2015-2016 season close) Rush Ranch and Suisun Hills Trail Birds of Prey workshop and hike.... we had over 30 attendees and 10 Raptor Species. Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, Red-tailed Hawks, Ferruginous Hawk, American Kestrels, Northern Harriers, White-tailed Kites, Turkey Vultures, Barn Owl and Great-horned Owl. I wanted to thank all of the attendees and docents who came out this year.... and a special, special thanks to Natalie DuMont, Earl Swenerton Linda Sonner and Jim Coleen Walsh for making the Raptor tours and workshops a success.... also thanks to all the West County HawkWatch team members who helped out this year, Tom Motherwell, Yvonne Motherwell, Dave Laurice and Steve Corey... It was a fantastic year we had over 250 people attending and we counted as many raptors as we had attendees!

Golden Eagle wonderland...Solano Land Trust (SLT) Lynch Canyon Open Space. Teri Enbring, here photographed above second from the left. Teri was able to see the vision of bringing wilderness, wildlife and people together. Lynch Canyon Raptor Hikes. Once a vision of Jesse House and Larry Broderick to find high density hawk locations and share them and explain their importance to both thriving eco-systems and the greater public. That vision became closer when Jesse and Larry met Ken Poerner a SLT Land Steward, Ken was manning a Solano Land Trust kiosk at the Pacific Flyway Festival and we were discussing Ferruginous and Rough-legged Hawks in Solano County. We had seen them in good numbers along Flannery/Creed and Robinson/McCormack Rds, near the "Solano 113/12 grid". Ken mentioned Rush Ranch and Jepson Prairie and possibly doing a hike or walk, while we spotted and identified hawks. Eventually Ken got Larry to Teri Enbring and she explained Lynch Canyon has been a bustling bevy of hawk activity and the table was set. Teri and Larry set up a couple trial tours in 2007 or 2008? (need to verify) and the table was set. Since then we have done close to 50 events. Averaging eight a year. LB 2013

while driving home from a big day of seeing 6 FEHAs and 5 RLHAs we stumbled across this Merlin, before we got up close bird looked "Coop-ish" but as we got closer the tail wasn't long enough and the eye stripe was evident.
